Training with Swords of the West

We primarily gather to train and excercise our martial knowledge and capabilities.

This may be inside or outside, may involve Longswords-Sabres-Daggers-Polearms-or even wrestling.

We train from historical sources.  We train from modern sources.  We train by both repetition and improvisation.

Classroom Training:

Organized training delivered in a clear methodical manner will allow you to both see and feel your progression.

Involvement with like minded practitioners will assist you in improvement and aid in sharing other views and ideas.

Coaching is an important part of training, and you will be aided in your progression throughout all sessions.

Variations in training topics will keep you on your toes, and avoid tunnel vision.

Expect to try new things, and in so doing so, perhaps find a new interest.

Outdoor Training:

Not all situations requiring a sword would have taken place on pristine gymnasium floors.  So what to do when faced with a conflict in grass, dirt, or amongst the trees?

One simple answer:  Prepare for it.

We like to get outside and in the weather, and on the ground.

It could be raining, it could be sunshine, either way its a valuable practice.

Fechtschule & Competition:

As a group we regularly attend HEMA related events for both training and competition, all across Ireland and abroad.

The training on offer at such events is typically of excellent quality, and the chance to put your skills to the test in competition against other practitioners can bring great value, not to mention giving excellent feedback on strenghts and weaknesses.

We encourage all members to attend as many events as they can for the diversity and quality offered by the training and competition available.
